Copy The Best

J.D. Martinez has recently exploded as one of the best MLB hitters. This article from Detroit Free Press explains how he stumbled upon the use of video as a tool to help him shape his swing. While on the disabled list with Houston, he tried to figure out how former Astros’ teammate Jason Castro was able to hit bomb after bomb.

After spending time in the video room, he figured out that the best hitters in baseball do the same things. He started with Miguel Cabrera’s swing, “Because he’s the best.”

Over 45 years ago Ted Williams told my dad, “If you want to be great, copy the best.” Advice that continues to apply today.
